Did you know that the Town of Winchester is governed by the tradition of Representative Town Meeting form of government?
That means that each spring the electors of the Town participate in the electoral process by casting their votes for local boards and committees as well as for the Town Meeting members. The Annual Town Election is held on the last Tuesday in the month of March. Winchester’s Representative Town Meeting is made of 8 precincts with 24 Town Meeting Members in each precinct for a total of 192 Town Meeting Members. Their job is to come together each spring and fall to hear reports from each of the elected and appointed committees conducting work on behalf of the community. Budgets are presented in the spring and various projects that need funding are presented predominately in the fall. Winchester has a five member elected Board of Selectmen that appoints a Town Manager by Charter to manage the affairs of the town. The elected offices are as follows: Board of Assessors, Board of Health, Board of Library Trustees, Board of Selectmen, Housing Authority, Moderator, Planning Board and the School Committee.
