The Town Manager is the chief administrative officer for the Town. The Board of Selectmen appoints the Town Manager, most of whose duties and responsibilities are detailed in the Town Charter, adopted in 1975. The Town Manager is responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the Town. He appoints department heads and employees not serving directly under elected boards and fixes their salaries within adopted personnel guidelines in the Compensation Plan. He is responsible for the enforcement of State law, Town by-laws, and the Town Charter. The Manager is also responsible for preparing and administering the Town’s annual budget, purchasing supplies and materials for all Town agencies, and awarding all contracts for all agencies including Education.
