Unacceptable Items

The following items are not accepted at the Transfer Station:

  • Asphalt bricks
  • Camp fuel
  • Chain-link fence
  • Chemicals
  • Concrete
  • Diesel
  • Enamel
  • Gasoline
  • Granite
  • Hazardous waste
  • Kerosene
  • Lacquer
  • Oil barrels
  • Oil paint
  • Oil stain
  • Rocks
  • Slate
  • Solid fill
  • Stone
  • Tanks
  • Tree stumps

Remember, some "unacceptable" items can be disposed of on certain specified Hazardous Waste Days. Contact the Board of Health at 781-721-7121 for more information.

Items to Recycle

In October 2012, the Transfer Station implemented "SSR" containers or Single Stream Recycling, which means collecting (acceptable) paper, plastics, glass containers and metal cans together. So you, the resident, no longer need to sort those things at home. You may combine such articles and bring them together to dump into a single SSR compactor.

Zero Sort Containers Acceptable Items

  • Newspapers, etc. (newspapers, magazines, catalogs, paper bags, office paper, computer pater, corrugated cardboard, phone books, junk mail, cereal, cracker and shoe boxes, and similar items)
  • Plastic bottles, etc. (plastic bottles labeled #1 through #7, milk / water jugs, detergent bottles, deposit and non-deposit beverage cans, metal food cans, aluminum trays and foil, etc.)
  • Glass bottles and jars

CRT Container-Acceptable Items

  • Computer monitors
  • Oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Television sets

Items Not To Recycle

  • Boxes containing solid Styrofoam or Styrofoam
  • Packing materials
  • Chemical / hazardous waste
  • Containers over 2 gallons
  • Dishes, glasses, Pyrex, ceramics, or broken glass
  • Food-coated boxes
  • Large metal / plastic objects.


  • Light bulbs
  • Motor-oil jugs
  • Plastic bags
  • Soiled papers
  • Trash in the paper containers.
  • Waxed paper or waxed cardboard, waxed juice,
  • Milk, or ice cream containers
  • Window or auto glass
