CURRENT STATUS

A SSO occurred in the Smith Pond Conservation Area.  SSO is not active.  

Winchester DPW has removed leaves exposed to SSO discharge.  Material removed replaced with clean leaves from the Smith Pond Conservation Area upgradient of overflow.

LOCATION

Smith Pond Conservation Area is located off of Johnson Road, near the intersection of Cox Road.

SPECIFICS ON SSO

Exact date and time of activation is unknown.  Suspect the discharge occurred around March March 14, 2023.

Exact date and time of cessation is unknown.  Suspect cessation occurred around March 14, 2023.  

Duration of SSO is unknown.  

Volume of untreated sewer discharge believed to be approximately 50 gallons.  

Wetland within the Smith Pond Conservation Area (down stream of Smith Pond) would have been the surface water impacted by the SSO.  

 Winchester Conservation Commission informed the Winchester Water and Sewer Department of potential SSO on 3/22.   Conservation Commission alerted to potential SSO by nearby residents.
