Winchester School of Chinese Culture: Making Chinese Fans
Friday, December 6, 2019
Often a symbol of status, the Chinese fan dates to the first century and used animal bones, wood or bamboo for the ribs. Handles were engraved with intricate designs and the face contained beautiful embroidered scenes of mountains, waters or flowers. Their use expanded to be an integral part of dance performances. Jennifer Zhang from the Winchester School of Chinese Culture will share more about these beautiful objects and teach you to make one to take home. Registration requested.
