Reweaving the Soul of Taiwan’s Indigenous Atayal Tribal People with John G. Kreifeldt
Tuesday, June 21, 2022
Join Tufts University Professor Emeritus John Kreifeldt for a presentation on Taiwan’s Indigenous and mountain dwelling Atayal tribal people. Learn how weaving formed the heart and soul of this tribal culture, a tradition that was passed down from mother to daughter over the generations. But during the 1895–1945 Japanese occupation, the Atayal were forbidden to weave or wear their traditional dress which severed these mother-to-daughter transfers resulting in the loss of this knowledge, ending weaving and the culture quickly decayed. The information for this illustrated and non-technical talk was gathered from visits to Taiwan over a period of 20 years. Register required. Register at www.jenkscenter.org
