MWRA Construction - Ridge Street

MWRA PS

The Town of Winchester is posting this information to inform residents of a construction project on Ridge Street. The Massachusetts Water Resource Authority on Wednesday April 10th, 2019 will begin the second phase of work related to the meter 130 upgrades in Winchester.

In July of 2016, the Town of Winchester experienced repeated complaints of low water pressure on Partridge Lane during the morning and evening hours. The MWRA worked with the Winchester Water Department to identify the low pressure issues. It was discovered that the MWRA meter on Ridge Street as well MWRA’s upstream piping and Winchester’s downstream piping are contributing to a reduction in pressure in Winchester’s system during peak water demand periods. Phase one included installing a larger meter and new piping which showed positive results with the pressure issues. The second phase will include the installation of new valves and downstream piping.

Similar to phase one construction, the road will be closed during work hours, but will remain open during the morning and evening commute. Detours that were approved by both Arlington and Winchester Traffic Safety departments will be isolated and emergency connections between the towns of Arlington and Lexington will be opened to supply meter 130, which supplies the Ridge Street supply area. There will be no service interruption to Winchester residents during the construction project. The work being done may cause discolored water for several days at the beginning of the isolation, and again when the water main is reactivated. The construction project will begin Wednesday April 10th, 2019 and will be completed by the end of May 2019.

The Town of Winchester thanks you for your attention and patience during this construction project. If the Town of Winchester can be of any assistance or can provide any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 781-721-7100.

Thank you,

James Gibbons
