Dr. Vartan Aghababian presents The Piano Quintet of Amy Beach

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

Behind any great work of art (be it a painting, a novel, a poem or a piece of music) lies a human interest story. The Piano Quintet by the American composer Amy Beach is one of the finest works of the genre and comes to us from a special time in history when the contributions of female artists (composers, painters, writers) were just beginning to be more widely accepted and recognized. This extraordinary quintet was created by a woman who was just as extraordinary as her music and the piece comes with an unusual history. In addition, it is a lovely work in three movements that is as enjoyable at first hearing as it is in subsequent listening. Dr. Aghababian is a member of the Winchester Community Music School where he directs a small chamber orchestra.
