This fun workshop will explore the mathematical nature of rhythm patterns from various cultural regions, with frame drums for everyone to play. In the first part of the workshop, students will start building their rhythm vocabularies by exploring patterns such as dotted values, syncopations, subdivisions, and polyrhythms. In the second part of the workshop, we will put our knowledge to use by playing along with recorded materials that reflect a variety of ethnic traditions throughout the world. No previous drumming experience is necessary! All ages are welcome. Free for WCMS students; $10 for public.
