    Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction(MBSR) with Iris Stammberger, PhD Wednesdays, 6:00 to 8:00 PM This class will help you work systematically with stress, pain, illness and other challenges of daily living. Learn techniques that you can apply to difficult situations for the rest of your life. Become part of a growing community of people who practice mindfulness every day. Class also includes a workshop. To learn more, attend a no-cost orientation: Wednesday, Sept. 6th, 10–11 AM or Thursday, Sept. 7th, 6–7 PM. Class Dates: September 13, 20, 27, October 4, 18, 25, November 1, 8; workshop October 22, 1-4 pm. Cost for 8-class series + workshop: $60.

    Contemporary China, 1989 – 2017 with Lorin Maloney Wednesdays, 7:00 to 9:00 PM Lorin returns to teach this stimulating series that examines the past thirty years as China has gradually emerged from the suffocating impact of the Maoist/Leninist political economy, moving toward a dynamic state capitalist economy. This program will also study an array of social and cultural issues. Class Dates: September 13, 20, 27, October 4, 18, 25, November 1, 8. Cost for 8-class series: $60.

  5. FAMILY TO FAMILY PROGRAM

    “I have so many questions about my relative’s mental health diagnosis…” • What do I do if there is a crisis? • How can I get a clear diagnosis for my relative? • How can my relative and I communicate better? • What local services in my community am I missing out on? • What are all these medications for? The Family-To-Family Education Program is a 12-week course for family caregivers and friends of individuals affected mental health challenges. All instruction and course materials are free for class participants. A different topic is covered every week: • Information about Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder, Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) • Coping skills, handling crisis and relapse • Listening and communication techniques • Problem solving and limit setting...and much, much more!   8. NAMI Family to Family course

    Family to Family is a 12-week course for family caregivers and friends of individuals affected by mental illness. Offered free of charge by NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), the course is taught by trained family member volunteers. The course provides information on the major brain disorders (mental illnesses) and teaches coping skills and communication techniques. Participants in Family to Family gain vital insight into their loved ones' situations and have described the course experience as life-changing.
