The Community Calendar is to publicize events located in Winchester where the pubic is invited to attend. For profit businesses are allowed to post on this calendar up to 3 days per month. All submissions are subject to approval.

No holidays, events outside of Winchester or personal events are to be posted.

  1. History of Latin Music: Rhumba! Samba! Tango! Mambo! with John Clark

    Join John Clark for a Presentation on the history of Latin American music. American popular music comes mostly from South American and Cuban dance music. Starting with The Peanut Vendor in 1928 and The Carioca, an Oscar winning dance hit for Fred Astaire in 1934. The 1940’s to the 60’s saw hits by Xavier Cugat (Brazil), Charlie Spivak (Besame Mucho), mambo king Prez Prado with Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White and Mexican rock & roller Ritchie Valens with La Bamba, folky Guantanamera, Herb Alpert’s pop mariachi (The Lonely Bull) and samba Grammy winner Girl from Ipanema.     Join our host Andrew Celentano, a talented local pianist and composer himself, for an interesting interview with Bruce Posner, expert, and archivist for Andrew Violette’s life work. Andrew Violette (1953-2021) was a New York City based composer, pianist, organist, and synthesizer player. He was active as a solo recitalist, accompanist, and recording artist. He composed over 90 works leaving a legacy of wonderful music. Bruce Posner, friend of the composer for 46 years, witnessed the creation of many of Violette’s works.
